Why should you sign up for short-term courses before entering university?

First of all, this learning format will enable you to integrate yourself into student life before the official admission. And modern online education format allows you to interact with other candidates, students and educators and learn more about the university and the studying process.

Second, such courses are usually last several days up to 8 weeks. So not too long but enough to immerse yourself into the Russian language, culture and traditions. It's a great opportunity to prepare for the future move.

Schools have a wide variety of themes and topics. Choose the one that fits you best. The majority of the short-term courses include classes in Russian for students with different levels of proficiency.

Seasonal school is your chance to study and meet new people, visit museums and exhibitions, travel outside the university, get to know Russian cuisine and traditions. The paid courses are universally affordable. There are free ones as well. Please note that participation in some of them requires specialized knowledge, while others do not require any preparation.

Summer schools are usually held during the summer months, but some of them start in May. Winter schools take place between January and March. Read more about Winter School Results - 2021.

Summer School of Intensive Russian (online/offline)

Tomsk State University

TSU is launching a summer school to study the Russian language and culture with the intensive practice of oral and written speech. The programme pays special attention to live communication between fellow students and native speakers. TSU Summer School is your chance to get introduced to Russian culture: field trips to and around Tomsk, visits to theatres, exhibitions and concerts, outdoor activities – all of it is awaits the participants.

Dates: 

June 14-27, 2021 (Intensive online Russian language summer school).

August 16 - September 3 (Intensive Russian Language Summer School).

Application deadline: April 1, 2021 (online); June 20, 2021 (offline).

Requirements: students of any humanitarian and natural science areas and specialities with an A2-B1 Russian language proficiency level.

Russian as a Foreign Language: Language Summer School (online/offline)

Siberian Federal University

A 2 months intensive course will benefit everyone who wants to study Russian and learn everything about the culture and traditions of Russia and the Krasnoyarsk Territory. Start learning Russian from the beginners level or improve your proficiency. The course includes 10 Russian language classes per week, covering phonetics, vocabulary, grammar, listening, as well as a rich cultural programme. You will learn about the most interesting Krasnoyarsk sights, take part in interesting masterclasses and meet future students from around the world. 

Dates: July 1 to August 31, 2021.

ITMO University Summer School in the Russian Language and Culture (online)

ITMO University

A Russian language course for beginners with a 0 to A1 proficiency level. You can choose a programme for one to four weeks to study Russian language and culture. The courses include an introduction to St. Petersburg city, as well as a dazzling entertainment programme.  

Dates: July 1-28, 2021.

International Polytechnic Summer School (online and offline)

Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University

The International Polytechnic Summer School will be held in a mixed format this year. With a duration ranging from 1 to 3 weeks, there are more than 35 programmes on entirely different topics: engineering and natural sciences, IT, construction, energy, economics and business, Russian language and culture, and even sports. Participants will be able to enjoy an intensive cultural programme online and offline, an introduction to Russian history and interaction with fellow students from all over the world.

Russian Studies in Real Russia (offline)

Ural Federal University named after the first President of Russia B.N. Yeltsin

The UrFU Summer School has been held since 2010. This year participants can choose one of four programmes: Russian history, culture and the Russian language. In addition to language courses for various levels, there is a whole programme in Russian studies – online tours, seminars, unique lectures. They will allow you to fully immerse yourself in Russian history, culture, art, as well as learn more about everyday life, politics and sports in the country.

Dates: July 5-15, 2021, July 5-18, July 5-25, August 23 - September 12, 2021.

School on Industrial Software Engineering for Robotics and Internet of Things (offline)

St. Petersburg State Electrotechnical University "LETI"

This programme includes intensive courses to help you acquire the necessary skills for software development in emerging fields such as the Internet of Things, robotics, and intelligent environments. Students will learn the basics in Python, computer vision, and the Duckietown platform, a testing ground for autonomous motion algorithms.

Dates: July 6-19, 2021.

International Summer School on Data Science in Software Engineering (online)

National Research Tomsk Polytechnic University

Do you want to figure out how to apply data science methods and tools in the development and testing of complex software systems? Take part in TPU Summer School and learn the nuances of software development and testing based on artificial intelligence.

Doing Business in Russia: Global Drivers and Local Context (online)

Ural Federal University named after the first President of Russia B.N. Yeltsin

This 10-day programme is suitable for senior bachelor and master students and graduates interested in learning more about business in Russia. Participants will study the project management specifics and will develop actual entrepreneurial projects under the guidance of qualified experts. At the end of the course, the teams will present their work to the jury and receive feedback and career advice from the professionals. Lectures and masterclasses will be held via Zoom and MS Teams platforms.

School on Animal-Centered Computing (offline)

St. Petersburg State Electrotechnical University "LETI"

The first international summer school of this kind offers an exciting new discipline that focuses on protecting the health and welfare of animals, researching their behaviour and developing methods of communicating with them through computer technology, artificial intelligence and machine learning. The partners include the University of Haifa (Israel) and the University of Salford (Manchester, UK).

Intensive Summer School of the Russian Language and Culture (offline)

Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University

This course will help you start or continue to study Russian, expand your vocabulary, and introduce yourself to the culture of the country. In your free time, you can get to know Kaliningrad, go to the Baltic Sea and walk along the Curonian Spit. The programme includes master classes on making real Russian gingerbread and rag dolls, interactive lessons on music, folklore and cinema and a lot of communication.

I module: July 26 - August 6, 2021.

II modules: July 26 - August 20, 2021.

FEFU International Summer School "Russia – Far East" (offline) 

Far Eastern Federal University

The three-week multimodular programme includes a Russian language basic course (alphabet, grammar, writing and communication basics) for all participants, as well as three optional modules: Russian language and culture (intensive course), Russia's internal and foreign policy and Entrepreneurship, innovation and marketing. The university also prepared an extensive entertainment programme, including a sightseeing tour of Vladivostok and Russky Island, visits to museums and an introduction to the many nations inside Russia.

International Summer School “Future Lawyers & Economists: Essential Skills to Success” (offline)

The programme includes a unique set of courses aimed at developing professional and communication skills to become a lawyer or an economist. Classes are taught by lecturers from leading universities in the UK, Greece, USA, Germany, Armenia and Russia. You will study in the format of interactive lectures and seminars using game mechanics and modelling different types of legal activities. All graduates receive an official certificate.
