Russian universities in the ARWU's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects

On May 26, 2021, ShanghaiRanking Consultancy published the ARWU - Global Ranking of Academic Subjects results. It included 19 Russian universities, with 6 in the top-100.

ARWU, or Shanghai Ranking, is famous for its' rigorous selection of participants using one of the most complex assessment methodologies in 54 subject areas. Universities from Russia ranked in 29 of them. In addition to traditionally high positions in physics, mathematics, IT, metallurgy and other engineering areas, educational centres we highly ranked in socio-economic and humanitarian sciences, nanotechnology, agriculture, biology and medicine.

The top-100 universities include Lomonosov Moscow State University ("Physics"), National Research Technological University "MISiS" ("Metallurgy"), St. Petersburg State University ("Automation and Control"), HSE University ("Mathematics"), NRU BelGU ("Metallurgy"), ITMO University ("Automation and Control").

HSE University and ITMO University are leading in the Russian ranking group. Both universities performed well in 8 categories. At the same time, HSE University became the first Russian university in "Public Administration" and "Education". Sechenov University entered the global ranking for the first time, immediately taking a firm position among the world's educational organizations in the subject of "Clinical Medicine".

ARWU – Global Ranking of Academic Subjects also presents TSU, NSU, TPU, RUDN, MIPT, MEPhI, SPbPU, Kazan Federal University, Lobachevsky University and other Russian educational centres.
