Father suggested me to go to Russia for medical studies

You must be wondering, “What is a guy from Brazil doing in Russia?” That is a question most of the people ask when they first meet me. When back in Brazil I told my friends and family that I was going to study in Russia, they asked me, “Why Russia?” Since Brazil is too far from Russia, you can rarely see someone who has chosen it as his or her destination country.

At the beginning I did not know anything about a possibility of studying in Russia. Then, luckily, my father told me that there is an opportunity for me to come to Russia and study medicine there. At the moment I am studying at the IKBFU preparatory course in order to get admission into the General Medicine degree programme afterwards. My experience so far has been extremely positive. Back in Brazil I was anxious about learning Russian, as it is not an easy foreign language to pick, but thanks to our Russian language teacher, our language classes have been not only productive, but also fun. Another thing that I like most about Kaliningrad and the Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University is that you get to know people from all around the world – for example, I have met students from Morocco, Colombia, Mexico and many other countries. In my opinion, if you have this kind of opportunity, you should try your best to take it.

Many people also want to know why I have chosen Kaliningrad specifically instead of St. Petersburg, Belgorod or any other city in Russia. For me personally, the choice is quite obvious, because climate in Kaliningrad is really nice and mild, it is not so harsh as in the rest of the country. As to me, I like both when it’s sunny or snowy. The last thing that helped me to make a decision to come and study in Kaliningrad is that people here are more open and welcoming towards international students, because they are used to being around foreigners. Moreover, the location of the region is very convenient for travelers. You can travel to Sweden, Lithuania, Belarus, Poland or any other European country.
