Al Alawin Hamdi, Jordan
National Research Nuclear University MEPhI (Moscow Engineering Physics Institute)
I had internship at an operating nuclear power plant
Why did I go for MEPhI postgraduate studies? First, Russia stood at the origins of nuclear power engineering, and consequently accumulated tremendous experience in this field. Second, MEPhI history and rankings were an important factor. Also, the university has close ties with Rosatom State Corporation, one of the world’s largest nuclear industry companies.
At first, I found it difficult to adapt to a new language and culture. Over time, I got used to it and had friends and acquaintances. I studied Russian at the University and eventually mastered it. Of course, teachers played a large role in it. I wish to note that they are top professionals and thank my research advisor for helping me with my project. The university has everything for engaging in science and running research of any difficulty level. MEPhI laboratories are well stocked with equipment which is constantly renewed. The University regularly hosts scientific conferences involving international students.
In general, Russia’s education system differs from the education system of other countries and has its advantages. Studying at MEPhI gave me extensive knowledge in nuclear power engineering, I learnt to apply new methods to solve research and engineering problems. I had internship at an operating nuclear power plant and saw technology put to use. I can now participate in the project to build the first NPP in Jordan. Of course, I recommend everybody to have training at MEPhI. I never regretted it.
