Up-to-date campuses, in-demand specializations and an opportunity to plunge into Russian culture – these are just some of the reasons why Chinese students choose Russian universities. Every year their number is growing. Today, 32,600 citizens of the People's Republic of China are studying at universities in Russia and their foreign branches, which is 3,000 more than last year.

This academic year, the Government of Russia has allocated a quota of 1,011 places for Chinese citizens. Most often, Chinese students who study in Russian universities within the quota choose such areas of study as philology, linguistics, literary studies, foreign regional studies, and economics.

Most Chinese citizens get their education in Pushkin State Russian Language Institute, RUDN University, Kazan (Volga Region) Federal University (KFU), Moscow State Pedagogical University, Moscow State Linguistic University, MPEI National Research University, Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU), and other universities of our country.

Many students fr om China opt for universities in the Far East region. FEFU alone has 1,500 Chinese students today. The university has entered into 23 academic exchange agreements with Chinese universities.

Citizens of the People's Republic of China traditionally show great interest in KFU, as well, wh ere 1.5 thousand Chinese citizens are studying today. KFU is developing cooperation with 33 research and educational centers in China, including Beijing University of Technology and Business, Peking University and Beijing Transport University. With the support of Chinese colleagues, activity of Chinese language centers is being developed at the university. There students can study the Chinese language and conduct scientific research in Chinese culture and history.

Educational cooperation between the two countries is also developing in the form of joint educational organizations based in Chinese universities. For example, Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University (SPbPU, Polytechnic University) has built a whole partnership network in the field of science, education and technology with universities in China.

SPbPU was the first Russian university to open its official representative office in China, in Shanghai. Many universities leading both in China and in world rankings, are SPbPU’s partners. Among them is Tsinghua University, which is among the top 20 world universities. The two universities have established a joint laboratory to conduct research in the field of aerospace and electronic technologies. At the moment, a program of joint postgraduate studies is being developed.

Bauman Moscow State Technical University has been cooperating with Harbin Polytechnic University for more than 20 years. A joint undergraduate educational program in "Spacecraft and Launch Vehicles" is currently open, and about 100 students have already graduated in this domain.

Finally, the Joint Russian-Chinese University, established by Lomonosov Moscow State University and Beijing Polytechnic Institute, operates in Shenzhen. At the moment, 1.3 thousand students and postgraduates study there, both from Russia and China, and also from CIS and other countries.
